This position involves responsibility for working with students receiving special education services who are experiencing social, emotional, and behavioral challenges within the school environment.  The work is performed within defined limits of a plan formulated with a certified Social Worker or School Counselor as part of the skills referral process.  Work situations not covered within the plan are referred to the certified Social Worker or School Counselor in the Skills Room.  The work is performed under the general supervision of a certified Social Worker or School Counselor in the Skills Room who is available for consultation.  The incumbent does related work as required.

  • Observes student’s school behavior and supports students in crisis within the school setting through de-escalation techniques and explicit social skills instruction;
  • Ensures records are complete with information about student behavior and behavior
  • interventions implemented within the school setting related to student behavioral incidents;
  • Works with interdisciplinary groups in developing, formulating and implementing plans for social skills instruction and behavioral interventions;
  • Follows federal and state regulations and BOCES policies regarding the implementation and
  • documentation of behavioral interventions including time out and emergency physical
  • interventions;
  • Keeps records and shares information on student progress with the student’s team.

Speech Language Pathologist

Salary: $50,678-$71,564, commensurate with experience

Location: Sanford Street TLC, Glens Falls

Work Hours: Mon-Fri; 8:00A-3:00P

The Speech teacher will assess and treat students who have speech, language, social communication or other disorders.

  • Provide speech and language therapy in an individual or group setting.

  • Conduct speech-language services based on goals and objectives outlined in child’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP);

  • Collaborate and consult with teachers and other related service providers (such as, but not limited to, OT, PT, AT, TVI);

  • Maintain an organized system of documentation for students’ records;

  • Complete data collection and reporting activities at designated intervals, including quarterly reports and during Annual Review meetings;

  • Assist in organizing, modifying, and implementing curriculum to meet students’ needs. 

  • Assist in selecting appropriate technology and materials for students;

  • Be familiar with and cooperate with school policies and regulations;

  • Cooperate as fully as possible with professional and non-professional staff members of this organization and other school districts in conjunctive activities;

  • And other such duties as assigned.
