Our BEARS programs are designed primarily for students who have a diagnosis of autism, and are in grades K-12 and up to age 22. Classes are configured as 8:1:2s. The program is designed for learners who require intensive and individualized support, attention and intervention for cognitive, speech and language, fine and gross motor as well as social and emotional development. 

  • Plans and implements student-centered practices that build on student assets and are culturally responsive to promoting the development of the whole child;

  • Plans classroom instruction through adapting methods, materials and technology to meet students' individual needs and that are based on best practices for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder;

  • Provides specially designed instruction for students' academic, social, emotional and behavioral needs, utilizing structured teaching methods that provide external supports for attention and executive functioning and visuals to supplement and support communication;

  • Creates an environment to support students' total communication needs;

  • Collaborates with team members including related service providers and classroom staff to develop, implement and monitor IEP accommodations, modifications, supports and goals;

  • Directs classroom staff in the daily instruction and support of students;

  • Evaluates and reports on students' progress at designated intervals according to school procedures;

  • Operates under school policies, procedures, and regulations;

  • Participates in the development of curriculum and programs;

  • Serves as case manager for assigned students;

  • Collaborates with families, outside providers and CSE;

  • Other duties as assigned.

Social Work Associate

Salary: $40,542 - $57,251, annually, commensurate with experience 

Location: Sanford Street TLC, Glens Falls, NY 

Work Hours: Monday - Friday; 8:00A-2:45P

This position involves responsibility for working with students receiving special education services who are experiencing social, emotional, and behavioral challenges within the school environment.  The work is performed within defined limits of a plan formulated with a certified Social Worker or School Counselor as part of the skills referral process.  Work situations not covered within the plan are referred to the certified Social Worker or School Counselor in the Skills Room.  The work is performed under the general supervision of a certified Social Worker or School Counselor in the Skills Room who is available for consultation.  The incumbent does related work as required.

  • Observes student’s school behavior and supports students in crisis within the school setting through de-escalation techniques and explicit social skills instruction;
  • Ensures records are complete with information about student behavior and behavior
  • interventions implemented within the school setting related to student behavioral incidents;
  • Works with interdisciplinary groups in developing, formulating and implementing plans for social skills instruction and behavioral interventions;
  • Follows federal and state regulations and BOCES policies regarding the implementation and
  • documentation of behavioral interventions including time out and emergency physical
  • interventions;
  • Keeps records and shares information on student progress with the student’s team.

Special Education Teacher

The Special Education Teacher does the following:

  • Utilizes classroom management strategies and positive behavior interventions and supports to promote student growth in self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision-making ;

  • Evaluates and reports on students' progress at designated intervals according to school procedures;

  • Operates under school policies, procedures, and regulations;

  • Participates in the development of curriculum and programs, including school-wide activities and program debriefs;

  • Participates in collaborative problem-solving and planning with colleagues;

  • Serves as case manager for assigned students;

  • Collaborates with families, outside providers and CSE

  • Other duties as assigned.
