| School Safety Officer (Anticipated) | | Number of Positions :1 Salary Range: $28,601-$57,583,annually,commensurate with experience relevant to the position Location: Hudson Falls, NY Work Hours: Monday-Friday; 8:00A-2:30P This position involves responsibility for the development, implementation and enforcement of a campus-wide safety plan to insure the safety of students and staff. The incumbent maintains order, prevents illegal or forceful entry and damage to school district property, enforcing school district policy and reporting violations and imminent danger to the proper authorities. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Principal with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in planning and carrying out the details of the work. Supervision is not generally a responsibility of this position. Does related work as required. - Acts as liaison with and maintains an excellent, professional working relationship with local, county, and state law enforcement authorities. Maintains the chain of evidence regarding illegal items and substances, pending potential criminal prosecution; supplies written supporting depositions and documentation to law enforcement when indicated;
- Serves as lead person in planning, implementing and evaluating the school district’s violence prevention and intervention response plan;
- Serves as advisor to the school district safety committee, and crisis management team and incident response team;
- Patrols and maintains a highly visible presence throughout the school day in corridors, lobby, cafeteria, restrooms and parking lot to protect persons and property, maintain order and ensure compliance with school rules;
- Reports all violations of law and school district policies to school administration;
- Assesses, advises school officials and takes immediate corrective action regarding any situation that may create potential harm to individuals or damage to or loss of property;
- Acts as liaison with local, county and state law enforcement authorities and maintains the chain of evidence regarding illegal items and substances, pending potential criminal prosecution; supplies supporting depositions and documentation to law enforcement when indicated.
- Intervenes between students in conflict, de-escalates potentially dangerous situations and refers for appropriate mediation;
- Effectively utilizes de-escalation techniques in accordance with Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and practices the tenants of Boys Town Positive Behavior Program.
- Plans, implements and enforces programs addressing the safety and security needs of the school district in accordance with the SAVE Legislation and Safe Schools Act;
- Provides in-service training to students and staff in all areas of personal and school safety, drug identification and awareness and incident management;
- May provide security services for extracurricular activities;
- Prepares well written and detailed reports and maintains records related to the work.
