The Coordinator for Special Programs provides instructional leadership to NYSAA (NY State Alternate Assessment) classrooms across the Exceptional Learners Division. Responsibilities include providing leadership in the development, articulation, and implementation of an instructional program aligned with New York State Alternate Assessment; improving the instructional program by assisting with program implementation and evaluation; assisting in the hiring and development of staff in NYSAA classrooms; coordinating student referrals; and assisting in the coordination of relevant staff development and TEACCH training. Work is performed under the supervision of the Director for Exceptional Learners.
Essential responsibilities and functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:

Directs and supports a coordinated instructional program for NYSAA classrooms through the implementation of evidenced-based practices, such as the TEACCH framework.

Provides input for the NYSAA classroom and curriculum budgets

Provides instructional support to BOCES teachers in NYSAA classrooms through a formative coaching process

Provides oversight and coordination of the MTSS process for NYSAA classrooms, including facilitating meetings and coordination of FBA & BIP process

Provides curriculum support to NYSAA classrooms, including technical assistance with online programs, and facilitates student progress meetings to review assessment results and make proper curriculum, instruction, and program adjustments

Provides staff development, technical assistance, and facilitation of professional development activities in relevant areas

Supports partnerships with businesses for work-based learning opportunities

Assists in the development and monitoring of IEPs, BIPs, and ICSPs for students in programs

Collaborates with principals and teachers for appropriate student assessment procedures related to BOCES benchmark testing and NYSAA testing aligned with State Education Department mandates

Provides leadership for the continual professional development of staff (individuals and groups) to ensure a well-informed, skilled, engaged, innovative and motivated staff

Assures the health, safety and welfare of students and staff, within the framework of BOCES board policy, administrative guidelines, and emergency management procedures

Serves as a member of the BOCES Leadership Team, Instructional Cabinet & ELD Leadership Team

Performs other duties as assigned by the Director for Exceptional Learners Division
