Location 2: Southern Adirondack Education Center, Hudson Falls and F. Donald Myers Center, Wilton (Split 50%)

Work Hours: Monday-Friday; 8:00A-2:45P

he Heavy Equipment Operation & Maintenance Instructor is responsible for teaching heavy equipment operation, maintenance, and repair theory along with hands-on skills to students enrolled in the Career and Technical Education program. The instructor will prepare students for employment in the Heavy Equipment field and for industry certification exams.

 

  • Develop and deliver curriculum covering heavy equipment systems, safety protocols, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair procedures.

  • Demonstrate proper use of tools, equipment, and diagnostic technology and supervise hands-on lab activities and ensure safety protocols are followed;

  • Stay current with Heavy Equipment industry trends and technological advancements and collaborate with local Heavy Equipment businesses for internship and job placement opportunities;

  • Evaluate and grade students' class work, labs, quizzes, exams, and practical skills exams;

  • Track student progress and adapt teaching methods to meet varying abilities and learning styles;

  • Prepare students for NCCER Certification, Industrial Lift Truck Certification and Commercial Drivers License exams by reviewing materials and administering practice tests;

  • Maintain accurate administrative records for attendance, grades, certification exam results, and other data;

  • Participate in professional development activities to stay current in the field;

  • Maintain positive relationships with colleagues, parents, advisory boards, and industry partners in the community;

  • Implement BOCES policies, procedures and State Education Department mandates;

  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications
  • Candidates who do not hold the following certification(s), but have the appropriate industry experience and/or degree are encouraged to apply.  All applicant credentials will be reviewed by WSWHE BOCES Regional Certification Officer.

  • HighSchool Diploma or equivalent;

  • NYS CTE Certification in Vehicle Mechanical Repair (Including Heavy Equipment Operation and Repair) - This title requires the applicant to have in-depth, comprehensive and appropriate work experience in the diagnosis, repair and/or operation of the major electro-mechanical systems of automobiles and/or heavy equipment.  Experience may include, but is not limited to, work as an automotive engine technician/mechanic, transmission technician/re-builder, brake and suspension specialist, and/or alignment specialist; OR

  • Eligible for certification based on relevant industry experience outlined above (4 years minimum or 2 years minimum with related degree)

  • Maintain a valid drivers license and CDL class A & B drivers licenses
