Location: Southern Adirondack Education Center, Hudson Falls, NY

Work Hours: Monday - Friday ; 8:00A-4:00P

This position exists in the Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex (WSWHE) BOCES and involves responsibility for all printing on digital and peripheral equipment in the production of a variety of printed materials that are used for internal use and public display/distribution. The incumbent is responsible for ordering supplies, inventory control, job quotations, printing and billing.  Work is performed under the general supervision of the Coordinator for Communication Services with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in planning and carrying out details of the work.  Supervision is exercised over the work of subordinate print shop personnel.  Does related work as required.

  • Completes all printing, binding, finishing, packaging, and shipping of envelopes, letterhead, booklets, school newsletters, calendars, forms, and related materials;

  • Confers with school officials and employees on their printing needs and advises them on the most appropriate and efficient ways of accomplishing their purpose;

  • Operates digital printing machines and peripheral equipment in completing all print requests, including collator, stapler, folder, binder, paper cutter, copiers, and padded forms;

  • Recommends which publications are to be produced in-house and which are to be subcontracted;

  • Prepares specifications and secures quotations from commercial firms on outside printing jobs;

  • Tracks jobs from start to delivery to end-users and all points in between;

  • Ensures a system of quality control;

  • Oversees a log of all print shop activity on a computerized database as a means of tracking and trending jobs;

  • Orders supplies and materials and keeps related records for billing and delivery purposes;

  • Monitors and maintains the safety and climate (humidity levels) of the print shop;

  • Cleans, lubricates and performs maintenance on machines, makes repairs, schedules repairs with outside entities as needed, and inspects results;

  • Manages the print shop equipment purchase, replacement, disposal/trade-in, including research on current equipment and cost comparisons;

  • Arranges for and supervises installation and major repairs to printers and other equipment;

  • Network with print industry colleagues to stay current on vendor capabilities and in-house equipment;

  • Understands and works with the WSWHE BOCES business department to comply with municipal purchasing laws and regulations;

  • Confers with the United States Postal Service as needed to ensure clients’ needs are met.

Job Qualifications
  • Possession of an Associate’s degree or higher in printing technology or a related field, and three (3) years of experience in a digital print shop; OR

  • Completion of an accredited apprenticeship program in digital printing, and at least five (5) years of experience in a digital print shop; OR

  • Seven (7) years of experience in a digital print shop.
